  • Anki

P.S. Posted a very similar post in English here. Today I felt like venting in Japanese instead (even if it takes me three times as long to write it).

P.P.S. My wife helped me out the next morning, as there were many mistakes.

Hey- at least I was able to read much of what you wrote, even though I am too lazy to respond in Japanese!

I think that patience and practice will be the key to understanding what you hear. I think I suggested this once before, but why don’t you spend a day communicating with your wife in only Japanese?? I don’t have that luxury and so I rely a lot upon Japanese t.v.

When I was studying English in Iowa (Don’t ask me why), one day an Iranian guy came up to me and gave me a few tips on how to master the language.
    1) Listen to the radio news. Preferably record the news so that you can listen as many as you wish. 2) Read the same article in the paper.
    1) will make you focus on listening. Guess the meaning and spelling. Then, 2), you check your answers and expand your vocabulary.
This was way back before the internet became popular. So, maybe it is not the best way as you have many other options available on the net.

After I posted my comment, I read your “similar post in English” which gave me more background of your Japanese study. Alright. Looks like you’ve tried many materials and methods.

Believing yourself as ぜったい落ちない! has a maximum effect when you actually take the exam. I’m into autohypnosis and self-enlightenment. Recent study shows your brain works according to what you believe even though they are not always true. In other words, you can fool your brain by giving yourself applause. My brain has been fooled for many years, and it must have figured out some things are not true by now ;-)
