JLPT: Running out of steam

Good news and bad regarding the JLPT certification test (first sunday in December):

Good news: I’ve compiled a little resource page for people wishing to take the JLPT. I’ll keep adding stuff as time goes on, including my experiences and such. I am 50% of the way through grammar book, which is good, but still another two months of study realistically before I absorb the material, and another 6 months to put it into practice before too late. :)

Bad news: Work has been really busy these last two weeks, with projects mounting, plus on-call shifts and a little girl who’s sleeping late, so my practice of the JLPT is starting to fall off. Somehow though, I think I am getting a kind of “study fatigue” and losing the will to keep studying. I think this is because I feel like I still have a long ways to go, and am unsure if I can absorb all the material in time. Of course, if I keep studying and practicing I believe I will be well-prepared, so the problem is really just a mental one. My recent trip to Disney Paris was a nice break from studying for a few days though, in any case.

P.S. Happy May Day, fellow proletariats!

All I can say is stick at it. Don’t let not studying become a habit.
If you only have 15 mins to spare, iknow.fm or readthekanji.com are two good sites for learning vocabulary and sentences. Both have interesting methods of showing your progress and both have more objective ways of assessing your knowledge than Anki.

Hang in there, it’s a long time until December.

    頑張って!

Everybody runs out of steam at some point. The trick is not get upset about it, especially with yourself, and allow yourself to have that down time. As long as it doesn’t become a habit as ロバート said. I’ve been out of steam myself because I just got done with a move, though still have a lot of settling in to do, and it’s killed my Japanese studying. Hopefully once I get more settled in I can get back on track. It’s funny how moving boxes drains you not only physically, but mentally.
