Spring at Eikando Temple

One of my favorite Buddhist temples in Japan is Eikando Temple in Kyoto,1 which is the head temple of the Seizan branch of Jodo Shu Buddhism. I’ve had a curiosity towards the Seizan branch of Jodo Shu Buddhism and its founder Shoku, for some time, but I’ve never actually visited Eikando myself. I have talked with the webmaster, presumably a priest there, over email correspondance, and I hope to actually visit the temple someday.

Eikando is very famous for its Pure Land art, including the famous “Amida Buddha Looking Back” statue, but also for its fantastic scenery. The folks at Eikando have recently been posting pictures of the spring scenery there at the temple and its gorgeous. I really encourage people to take a look if you have a minute.

Enjoy!

1 Other temples I love is Chion-in, which is where I first really awakened to Buddhism I think, and Sensoji, which is a popular tourist place (and famous Tendai temple), but somehow just always gives me a really good vibe.
