Prawo Jazdy lives!

This has nothing to do with the usual theme of the blog, but someone sent me this article at work a couple days ago and I wanted to pass it along. Being in Ireland, which has a very large Polish immigrant community,¹ this article was just too funny. It kind of illustrates the “lost in translation” effect that happens when two different cultures come in contact with one another.² The Polish word “Prawo Jazdy” is pronounced like “Pravo Yazdee” by the way. I know this because a lot of my co-workers are Polish, and one of them showed me his driver’s license. Sure enough, it says it right there on the upper-right corner.

¹ This is the first time in Ireland’s recent history that it experiences such a large wave of immigration into the country, but for me, it’s really fun to be able to work with so many people from different parts of Europe, hear stories about the Soviet Union, etc.

² Which does peripherally fit the theme of this blog.
