P.S. Note to English readers: lamenting that I could not be home for the 4th of July.

Happy July 4th in any case.
Home is where your wife and daughter are, so I reckon you made it home for July 4 after all! The country is mainly just scenery.
Thanks a lot Robert. Yeah, I kind of missed seeing the extended family for the 4th, but you’re right in that the rest was just scenery. It was a nice dinner with friends (sort of a quasi-4th of July dinner).
Do you ever get homesick in the UK? I don’t get homesick very much these days, though I did at first not surprisingly. Still, for some reason I got a little homesick lately.
I’ve been in London for a long time now. The majority of my adult life in fact. So I have a slightly skewed sense of home.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been homesick.
(Of course in many ways the UK isn’t that much different to Dublin.)
I never intended to stay so my roots aren’t that deep. But I realised a few years back that I also can probably never go back to Ireland. Both it and me have changed, it’s an unfamiliar place now. Oddly Japan (outside Tokyo) is the place I feel most at ease, but that might just be novelty or a holiday feeling…
