Change in blog schedule, format

Hi all,

I am making some adjustments to the blog. Namely for a few reasons:

  1. One big reason is that I want to focus on quality, not quantity. I tend to get into a habit of throwing out as many posts as I can, which I think degrades quality, leads to typos, and topics of middling interest.
  2. I want to tone down the religious posts and focus on a more balanced variety in topics: current news, history, religion, learning the language, etc.
  3. I want to buckle down more and focus on preparing for the JLPT, especially listening. This is hard to do at night, the only free time I have, when busy on side projects. So I closed my Twitter account for example which was just a waste of time (still on Facebook for those looking for me). Also shelved some offline writing projects of mine until next year at least.
  4. I want to give readers a consistent schedule. Speaking from experience, I like the anticipation knowing that blog will post on days X and Y, rather than guessing. Again, I want to improve quality, not quantity.
  5. I also want to ensure a more consistent sleep schedule.

So, to that end, I decided to focus on posting on certain days for posting blog entries: Sunday (my most free day ;) ), Tuesday, because I like Tuesday, and Thursday because I like them too, also before the weekly drop in readership I notice on Friday and Saturday.

This is experimental at this point, but I’ll try this out for now, and see if this works. For a while I was unofficially doing Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but Friday was a problem, so I prefer the timeline above. Also, I fell into the “quantity” habit again, which I hope to reign in. :)

We’ll see how this goes. Long time readers know that I have had similar ideas in the past, so we’ll see if I actually follow through at this time.

I appreciate your efforts to streamline blogging efforts, also your comments on Twitter which I agree is a waste of time. Facebook is too, but somehow provides more “social interaction” and I like it for putting up my photos. Blogging, I tend to read others’ blogs once or twice a week, usually toward the end of the week in the evening when I’m too tired to do anything else. Since my own blog is aimed at giving me a place to easily express my thoughts, feelings, I just write it up when the urge strikes. So it’s more haphazard and incidental than yours.

Besides all this, I’m glad to see you working at your Japanese, keep it up!!
    Cheers – Maggie

Thanks Maggie! I definitely appreciate the encouragement, and appreciate your thoughts on blogging and the “internet” social life even more. :)

Cám ơn! (still remember Vietnamese a little ;) )
