Interesting in themselves, and also because they remind one of certain medieval European Christian groups who made just the same argument: we have the infallible keys to Heaven, so we can do whatever we want on earth while waiting for the transition, and the more we sin, the more we prove that we are the true Christians. Not unknown in some Zen circles, also. Seems as though every religious/spiritual tradition has some adherents who hit on this rationalization. Also: "kono," not "sono" in the Honen. But that's OK; I make that kind of slip very often, too. Interesting quotes from the old guys.
