JLPT test at last, updated

Hello,

If you’re reading this, I am probably taking the JLPT certification test right now, or cramming for it ahead of time. If you’re taking the test too, best of luck! I’ll post more about the test afterwards, but for you early readers, you can enjoy this photo from my LOST FLICKR ARCHIVES that never made it into the Ladies Man Series:

Ladies Man 9

The purse belongs to my little girl, the picture was taken on one really boring Saturday while on-call and stuck at home during my time in Ireland. The character on the purse is the famous character from Anpanman named Dokinchan.

Now, back to the examination! 俺負けないぞ!

Update: As promised, I planned to update this post with my test experience. All in all, it was exciting to be there. I was surprised how many people were taking the test, some from other states. There were even some kids there maybe as young as 12. The JLPT is definitely a big deal, and the test was quite professional. It was a grueling 3 hours, but higher level exams can take even longer. I saw the JLPT1 guys still taking the test even after I left!

In any case, hard work definitely paid off, and I am already looking at preparations for JLPT 2 next year. I won’t be able to see the results of the test until February, so I have 3 months to wait, but I am reasonably confident I passed, and even if not, I will still look forward to level 2 over the next year or two. :)

P.S. I decided to post a little early to wish other test takers good luck!

Got a thorough spanking from level 2 this past weekend. There’s no doubt that I didn’t pass, having already failed 2 practice tests, but the experience alone was worth it, if just to know how to pace myself next year. Picked up a few things along the way as well, such as, close your eyes while doing the listening part, and don’t be intimidated by the people speaking fluent Japanese during the break. Everyone learns a new language at a different pace. これからも頑張るぞ!

Ouch! I’d love to know more about yoru experience with the 2, since I plan on trying that this year. Not expecting to pass the first itme, but I want to get a good idea of the difficulty. I will pick up some of the past tests as well, but I foudn that past tests, while very consistent with teh current tests, still don’t have the same experience as being under the gun in a classroom. I struggled with 3 more than expected partly due to pressure and such. Funny.
