Metroid: The Post-it Version

Something I wanted to share, since I have been recently on a Nintendo nostalgia trip (with some Buddhism mixed-in). I work in a certain office in Seattle, and on a different floor, someone made this image out of post-it notes:

Metroid Post-Its

No joke. I was stunned when I saw it years ago before I moved to Ireland, and when I moved back, I was happy to see the picture was still there. I finally decided to take a photo and upload it, since no one seems to have done it already. For those not familiar, this is a very accurate representation of the original 8-bit Nintendo game Metroid. On the left is a “bird statue” holding a power-up while on the right is the main hero. Here’s another angle:

Metroid Post-it 2

I was a true Nintendo kid, having grown up in the 80′s, and Metroid along with Final Fantasy One were two of the few games I owned and enjoyed countless hours with. So, seeing this mural made out of post-its decades later rekindled many fond memories.

Still, the mystery remains, who made it? I really don’t know. I may never know. But if the original creator is reading this, thank you. :) However, for all you Nintendo fans out there, enjoy, and I hope this photo inspires your own “office Nintendo art” as well.

I didn’t play the early Metroid games, but was a big fan of Super Metroid for the SNES and the later Metroid trilogy for the Gamecube. I’ve done some drawings of the enemies from Metroid, but haven’t done one of Samus yet.

Is the left half of the picture the statue that holds the various collected items? The camera angle makes it hard to tell for certain. I’m guessing the hallway was a bit narrow for picture taking. I can see myself being bored enough at work to do this kind of art. Actually, one of my Metroid drawings was done while at work.

Thanks for sharing. I’m always up for Nintendo-based posts.

Hi Kendall, thanks for the input! Yes, the hallway was quite narrow, making it hard to take a straight-on shot. I fixed up the post a bit though, and added another photo for clarity. :)
