A Moonlit Night

Which seemed to fit a certain poem from the Hyakunin Isshu anthology:
月見れば tsuki mireba
ちぢものこそ chi ji ni mono koso
悲しけれ kanashikere
わが身ひとつの waga mi hitotsu no
秋にはあらねど aki ni wa aranedoThis night the cheerless autumn moon
Doth all my mind enthrall;
But others also have their griefs,
For autumn on us all
Hath cast her gloomy pall.
(From the 1909 Porter Translation)
Now that my wife and daughter are over in Japan a week ahead of me, I can’t help but feel a little extra gloomy. :-/
