Update on clingy baby

About two weeks ago, I was writing about how Baby was extremely clingy for a while, screaming her head off if separated from Mommy. We had read about how this was a phase that often occurs around 14 months, when the Baby becomes more aware of the wide world around them.

I am happy to report that lately, this phase has begun to pass. Coincidentally, the day after I wrote that post, Baby began to relax somewhat and would let me hold her like she used to. I still can’t give her a bath without her panicking that Mommy’s not there, but she’s definitely back to her old independent self.

Speaking as one new parent to other parents: crazy phases come and go. You just have to ride it out, and know that your child’s problem is far from terminal.

In other notes, Baby has been learning sign-language lately, which has helped communication somewhat. She knows how to say “more” (touching the fingertips of her hands together), and likes to use it also when she wants something. She loves eating fruit in general, especially bananas and kiwi fruit, so when we went grocery shopping yesterday, we passed the fruit aisle. Baby suddenly kept making the “more” sign over and over because she wanted all the fruit. The store we go to, PCC, gives a free piece of fruit to children as a way of promoting healthy eating. So, they let Baby have free banana, which she wolfed down (the whole banana!) in the car. She was pretty hungry apparently. :p

Baby also has been walking a lot lately with help from Mommy and I. She holds onto our fingertips and plods along, step-by-step. She’s definitely getting closer to walking on her own, but it will take another month or so. Given that Baby is pretty large for her size and has tiny feet, this is probably delaying things somewhat, but we’re not worried. She really enjoys walking and gets pretty annoyed when we put her in the car.

So anyways, that’s all for Baby for now. I’ll post pictures one of these days. She’s really growing fast.
