Since I don’t have much Internet access this weekend, I wanted to leave some food for thought to folks. This is a picture of the TV show “Kung-fu”. This show is literally what started me in Buddhism years and years ago when I was 16. Before then I had never even heard of Buddhism, but one saturday afternoon, I was watching the TV show, when it had one of the famous flashback scenes like the one above. After Master Po (shown above) said something profound, the camera zooms back to show an image of the Buddha. I was so curious about Buddhism after that, so I bought some of the usual “Zen” classics, and read a few at the school library (what little there was).
I am now 30, and my understanding of Buddhism has matured greatly, but I still fondly remember my youth and the more innocent days back then when I first discovered the beauty of Asian culture, and Buddhism which is deeply woven into it. The TV show, in hindsight, was a lot of Hollywood magic, and less Buddhism and more witty one-liners, but I wouldn’t be on the Path I am now without it.
So, thank you to the producers and writers (and Bruce Lee who originally made the show), for exposing folks like me to Buddhism.

Martial arts is how I first became curious about Buddhism too. I took a lot of classes when I was in school. I started with karate and later a school that I went to taught a combination of jujutsu, judo, and aikido. This was the most interesting to me. It was more than just martial arts. We spend time in meditation and philosophy. I stuck with this until my teacher moved away. I was 16 when I got my black belt. Today, I am still interested in aikido and Buddhism.
Hope the move goes well and you get the net back soon, cute post.
