Part 4: Technical Japanese I wish I had known sooner
Posted: September 16, 2009 | Author: Doug | Filed under: Japanese, Technology | Leave a comment »From time to time, I like to post technical Japanese words that I come across so that other computer users, or folks in the IT industry, can expand their knowledge and communication skills. This is part 4, while the previous three posts are below.
Today’s vocab is pretty basic, where previous posts focused on more network engineering terms and IT industry terms:
- 立ち上がる (たちあがる) – Literally means to stand up, but can also mean to setup a computer.
- ブラウザ – Web browser. Just the Katakana form of “browser” here.
- ホームページ – Home page. Americans tend to say “webpage”, but Japanese prefer “homepage”.
- 開く (ひらく)- To open something (e.g. window, browser, etc), opposite of 閉じる from lesson 2.
If you live and work in Japan, you should definitely learn these, even if you just visit for a time and want to use an Internet cafe. Good luck!
P.S. Webpages on reading hiragana and katakana.
