Yay

Latest video by Girls’ Generation and their new album, “The Boys”:

Even if you’re not a KPop or Girls’ Generation fan in general, the video is pretty amazing visually. I like the intro quite a bit with the falling blossoms, Sunny’s new hair (the short blond look), Yuri’s hot open-sleeve white shirt, Tiffany’s cool blond streaks, and of course Taeyeon’s look with the blond/pink extensions. I also liked Hyoyeon in this video all-round and happy to see a lot of Jessica and Sooyoung too, plus the nice intro with Yoona. Seohyun, as always, has an awesome voice.1

On the lighter side of things, Simon and Martina over at Eat your Kimchi posted a good review of the video. It’s pretty funny to watch. :)

I didn’t share their dislike for the rapping, but I agree it wasn’t their strongest suit. I actually liked the “Bring the boys out” chorus myself and the following morning it was still stuck in my head. A good sign. Like many people who responded, “Genie” is still the best song, though I’d have to argue that “Run, Devil, Run” is a very close second. I watched this video again this morning after a good night’s sleep and I like it even more than before. It grows on you, like much of SNSD I suppose. :)

I’d love to go and get the single album soon, but I’m going to Japan in late December, and I’m already planning on hanging out Shin-Ōkubo (新大久保駅) with my wife and her friends. It’s not the usual place Western tourists to Japan would visit, but it’s a famous, historical “Korea-town” in Tokyo with quite a large Korean community. I’ll be there loading up on KPop stuff. ;-p It’s a lot cheaper than trying to buy imports, and probably more variety to offer too. We’ll see.

P.S. I decided to post this a day later than originally intended out of respect for the recent floods in Ireland and Thailand.

1 Although I have favorite members, I think it’s good to acknowledge everyone’s contributions. They’re all great performers and deserve credit. The group wouldn’t be the same without any one of them.

    Hi Doug!

I go to Shin-Ōkubo once a week for my yoga class!
If you’re around, would you like to join us?

In any case, if you’re coming to Japan in December, it’d be great to meet up – finally! (If you’d like to of course!).
You’ve got my email address right?

    With palms together,

    Marcus
