Hi, I just happend to see your blog while I was doing net-surfing, found it mighty interesting since theme you’ve kept on writing is especially about my homecountry, Japan:)
It wasn’t so revealed that Japan is such an unique country till I went abroad to study for one year in Finland, yet since then Japan doesn’t seem as it was before ’cause my point of view has changed by new experiences and thing is that I’ve been feeling like an outsider even though I’ve already came back and settled down for the time being here, hahha.
Anyway, the tip you showed in this blog, which states some perpection toward non-verbal communication in Japan, reminds me the occasion that my partner who is from Finland visited me here for the first time and stayed over at my place, where my family also hang around. No doubt that it must have been a big culture shock for him as I red through your feedback about typical japanese unwrittten rules for visitors:) Neither my family nor he could speak languages one another so that it was harder than I had expected to translate everything all the time since they’re surprisingly talkative. But I would say it’s always interesting to see cultural exchange. Sorry for this long comment but keep me posted about your interest, it must give me a lot of fun!

Michael: It’s like 4th of July in the US, it’s that big. Compared to Christmas which was quiet and somber, St. Pat’s is really quite a lively day here. Much of the place is closed or on Sunday-schedule, and the streets were full of people and families enjoying the nice weather (at last!). The big Parade through Dublin was a huge affair and well worth going. I hope to post pics soon.
Doruko: Welcome to the JLR! My wife has lived in the US for 10 years (and now Ireland for 1), so she feels the same way when she comes home, like an outsider. Not in a bad way, but it’s hard to explain the differences to people who haven’t traveled.
Glad you find the information useful. I wonder how Japanese sometimes feel about my blog. It would be like a Japanese person writing about American culture. Seems weird when you’re a native of that country. :p
